Business class flying is expensive, but occasionally you can grab yourself a bargain if you have the time and energy to look for reward seats and deals.
Cards on the table, we did neither of these for this journey. Instead, we were fortunate enough that members of our family worked for a ‘major’ worldwide airline nominated us for two of their standby tickets.
Being on standby means that you’re not promised a seat, but you basically get the best class available if there are seats left. We were in luck – two business class seats were available!
This is the first time we have ever flown in business on all of our trips around the world. We’re not particularly loyal to any airlines as such but to tend to find ourselves flying on the same handful; Emirates, British Airways, easyJet, United, and Southwest (USA).
So, first impressions – fabulous. The crew could not do enough for you!
After we settled in, the crew came around with the in-flight menu (see below). They also took our pre-take off drinks order.

After some food and drink, it was time to make use of the lay-flat beds. There’s a little control panel in your ‘cabin’ on the A350 which controls your seat movements. To be honest, it was the most comfortable flight I’ve ever been on (which obviously comes at a price). After a good few hours of sleep, the next round of food and drink soaked up a bit of time!
If you ever have the opportunity to fly Business Class (even if it’s just the once), it’s worth a try, even just for the experience.
