All of the options below are within 15 minutes walk of the hotel we stayed at. These are in no specific order:

  1. Grandi Matholl – website

This is a food court type place, but not KFC and Burger King style. There’s about 5 outlets with options including Asian, Korean, Gastro, Fish & Chips and a ‘soon to open’ pizzeria. We ate here twice during our stay, the burgers from Fjárhúsið were amazing.

2. LAMB – website

This was a street food place serving Lamb in different ways, and was certainly different. We tried the sharing platter which had a bit of everything on it. They also had vegan options.

3. The Drunk Rabbit

We didn’t eat here, but the deals on the happy hour were great and the staff were a good laugh. It’s an Irish bar on the way into the main city centre, and there’s other places close by, too.

3. The English Pub

This place had good vibes, it was themed like an old(ish) English pub. There’s not much more to say about it, other than the happy hour deals were good just like The Drunk Rabbit.

4. Hard Rock

We to our best to visit the Hard Rock in each city we visit. Although the menu is pretty much always the same, it’s fun to roam around the history on the walls and have a drink. This place is a stones throw from the two pubs mentioned above, the staff were very welcoming and friendly.

5. Rekjavik Rost

This was a coffee shop and bar on the harbour front which was recommended to us, and the coffee was good! It’s also got a lovely view over the harbour which is quite peaceful.

6. Hygge Coffee & Bakery

This place is joined onto the hotel we stayed in, and have some great coffee and quirky pastries! Some of the pastries were on the Danish counter at breakfast so you could give them a try.

7. Hot Dogs!

There’s a tiny stand in the same vicinity as the two pubs mentioned above which was highly recommended to us. We’re not massive hot dog lovers, so to us it was just like a regular hot dog, but it was good to try!
