It might seem like a long and gruelling journey to travel from the UK to Singapore, with the total travel time around 21 hours from door to door. For those of you who are not a fan of the long haul flying (or flying at all) this might seem like a nightmare. Actually, it’s fine. Yes, it’s a bit tiring and if it doesn’t go 100% to plan, a little stressful, but on the whole, it can be a pleasant experience.
Our journey involved a change in Dubai (DXB) which was around 4 hours – this should be plenty of time to change flights and also expect your luggage to arrive at your final destination.
The journey from Manchester to Dubai is around 7-8 hours. Our economy seats were quite roomy (A380) and the crew made us feel right at home the whole journey. Plenty of movies to choose from on the entertainment system (or ICE as it’s known as). Every few hours there’s a drinks service and food service, so this breaks the time up quite a bit. You can always stretch your legs and do a few laps of the aisles!

We landed in Dubai and taxied to terminal 3. If you’ve never been to Dubai airport before, it’s huge (we’re talking about DXB here rather than the other airport, DWC). There are 3 terminals, but the place is like a small city. The airport runs 24/7 and is one of the biggest hubs in the world, so don’t be surprised if it’s really busy at 2am.
As we had the Priority Pass card (it was free as part of an American Express deal for 12 months), we decided to venture into one of the lounges thinking that we’d have plenty of room to stretch out and relax. Not the case this time! Seemingly, there were quite a few delays and the lounge was rammed! Nevertheless, we decided to have a drink and some food while we waited for our next flight…to Singapore!

The travel time from Dubai to Singapore was a further 7 hours, which sounds pretty grueling after just coming off another 7 hour flight but focussing your mind on arriving into Singapore does help. Also, watch a movie and try to get a bit of sleep…the time soon passes.

Here’s a really poor attempt of us trying to catch the sunrise. When the lights are on it’s quite difficult to get a decent photo because of the reflections on the windows.
