This was our first time in Iceland, so following some research of the area (and not a lot of local knowledge) we found Grandi by Centre Hotels. We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights. This hotel was based in the Vesturbaer area of Reykjavik near the harbour, and everything was in a reasonable walking distance as per our post on food and drink.
From the airport, the hotel was easy to get to after using the FlyBus service between Keflavik airport and Reykjavik centre. We’ve got a post about the FlyBus service here.
On arrival at the hotel, the staff greeted us at reception and straight away, we could tell that they were part of the character. They were both professional and relaxed; and certainly up for a laugh. They checked us in early, we were so glad we could unpack and change into something more weather appropriate.
The room was great – warm, good size, and lots of places to hang up bags, coats, and hats, which is really useful when you’ve got a few layers on. The bathroom was a good size, although the sink was just outside of the bathroom (not an issue, quite useful in fact) and there was plenty of space to move around.
They had coffee and tea facilities and a mini fridge to stock up on drinks, etc. The hotel reception had a small desk where you could buy snacks and drinks, too.
Back down to the lobby, and there’s a lovely open seating area with a fire. We sat here a couple of nights with a bottle of wine which we had bought at the airport (the bar opened it for us). The bar itself is great, and offered a happy hour from 4pm to 6pm.
Our room also included breakfast, the restaurant was just passed the bar and was a large open area. They had a great selection on each day of cold and hot food, along with tea, coffee, and soft drinks. One of the days it was particularly busy because of the weather, but apart from there not being many tables left, there was no shortage of food.
We would 100% recommend this hotel if you’re staying in Reykjavik, and for the record, we’re not paid to say that either!
