As per our post on San Francisco to Yosemite, we stayed in Yosemite Southgate Hotel & Suites in Oakhurst.

The hotel itself was brilliant – the staff were welcoming, and we had a breakfast (of sorts) included with our stay. When we say breakfast…it was a few pastries, coffee, etc. It wasn’t a feast but it did the trick. On entry to our room, we were pleasantly surprised by how big it was; good size sitting area, comfortable bed, and small kitchen area with microwave and large fridge. There was a generous amount of parking, we were happy with our choice.

A short drive away, you get to a small retail park (it is small) but it has a Raleys supermarket, pizza take away, and McDonalds. A bit further and you get to a Starbucks, and just over the road you have a fuel station – very useful if you’ve just come out the park.

5 minutes walk down the road from the hotel, you come across Oakhurst Grill & Whiskey 41 Lounge. This was suggested to us by the hotel reception as a good local spot. We decided to give this a try on our second night, and we were not disappointed. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, and the food was good.

Now…the National Park bit…we had an image in our head of “Yosemite Southgate, oh, must be right on the edge of the park”. This just isn’t the case. From the hotel, you take a left, and drive for 20-30 minutes before you hit the entrance to the park.
